Gokigenyo
ごきげんよう
“Gokigenyo” is one of the many greetings we have in Japanese. It’s common enough so you may have heard it before yourself. “Gokigen” is feeling and “yo” is well and, historically, was used within palace walls.
It can be used both in meeting and in parting. In meeting, you would be asking the other person if they have been well all this time. In parting, the meaning would shift to become a wish for the other person to remain well.
It seems we’ll be parting ways for a while so until we meet again, “Gokigenyo!”
