Kogetsu - Traditionally Terrific

If you are looking to experience a Japanese dining ambience like no other, we highly recommend you come to Kogetsu, at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Built on stilts, it offers a tranquil view of the lake and surrounding gardens. Kogetsu serves an array of delectable Japanese cuisine that stays true to its roots, using only the freshest seasonal ingredients and prepared with a respect for tradition.

As a part of Saujana Hotel and located near the Subang SkyPark Airport, Kogetsu is an excellent choice for events like business meet-ups or friend gatherings, as they boast an array of special spaces, like
a separate teppanyaki room, a sushi counter and three tatami rooms for private dining. From their dizzying variety of Japanese dishes, we have tried their two bestselling dishes – the Tori Katsu Don, and the Gyu Hire Teppanyaki Set.

The Tori Katsu Don is perfect as a dinner dish as it is served with fresh fruits and salad. A fluffy egg on top of the rice covers and keeps the chicken cutlets warm, and matches the taste of the panko breadcrumbs used to deep fry the chicken. The donburi is cooked with a broth (dashi) made of soy sauce and onions, making it flavorful and delicious.

Fans of teppanyaki would be impressed by their crowd-pleasing Gyu Hire Teppanyaki Set, which is just out of this world – you would definitely agree once you taste their juicy beef tenderloin, which is sure to satisfy any meat lovers out there. Your mouth will definitely water from the very first bite!

We managed to interview the head chef himself, Chef Taketoshi Minami. He was kind enough to share with us his 20-plus years of experience in the hospitality industry, and how he has expanded his knowledge and improved his culinary skills, especially in Japanese cuisine. Before we ended our visit, we indulged in the sweet desert named “Monaka” (Wafers with Vanilla Ice Cream). This dessert is highly recommended for cleansing your palette after your savory meal, right before you depart.

We were greatly satisfied by the meal. The food was high quality, with appropriate portions, and prepared upon order. Kogetsu is, without a doubt, one of the best spots to check out if you are looking for Japanese cuisine that’s worth it’s weight in gold.
