Parallel Nippon: Contemporary Japanese Architecture 1996 – 2006

K uala Lumpur City Gallery and Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur bring you a contemporary exhibition of architecture that refl ects the changes in Japanese society. Parallel Nippon exhibition looks at buildings completed on Japanese soil over the last decade as well as buildings realized by Japanese architects abroad – selected by a curatorial team led by MIYAKI Riichi, professor at the Graduate School of Media and Governance in Keio University, the projects range from large-scale infrastructure facilities to small private residences. The travelling exhibition opened in Japan in 2006, and will continue its world tour until 2016; by which time these projects will not only have been displayed internationally for a further decade, they will have grown increasingly important as the exhibition proceeds. Amongst the architects are KUROKAWA Kisho who designed the well known Kuala Lumpur International Airport as well as other names like ANDO Tadao, ISOZAKI Arata and TANGE Kenzo.
