“The World of Kokeshi” Exhibition

Kokeshi is Japanese traditional wooden dolls which used to be toys for the children in the Japan. Traditionally they are handmade by professionals with a spherical head and simple cylindrical trunk with no arms or legs. Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur are organizing an exhibition of Kokeshi, “The World of Kokeshi” until 25 April 2013 at the Petaling Jaya Museum, at Section 10, Taman Jaya. This exhibition shows not only traditional kokeshi but also creative kokeshi which is completely free in terms of inspiration, shape, and painting. By presenting both traditional and creative kokeshi, the exhibition will show how new developments are coming out from the tradition. JFKL April 2013
